The Movie Channel brand was created for an interconnected community of true enthusiasts. Stylish and iconic, the idents create connections between disparate elements. They thread through titles, stars, directors, composers and The Movie Channel brand.

The movie lover has a passion and enthusiasm beyond the everyday. As an enthusiast they express their passion through expert knowledge. This insight is played, within the channel graphics, by using question and answer threads. We also took inspiration from different types of enthusiasts; the lover, the buff, the worshipper, the addict. All express their enthusiasm in different emotional and visual manners.

Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on earth can be connected to any other person, anywhere on the planet, through a chain of acquaintance of no more than five intermediaries. The theory was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy in a short story called Chains. Six degrees of Separation is also a 1993 film. Like many great films, the directions that the plot takes are highly unpredictable yet thought-provoking.

A three dimensional matrix has been created as a unifying element for the entire channel package. This matrix illustrates the six degrees concept. Destinations along the matrix are demonstrated by either typography or iconography. The combination of these elements gives the channel its own visual language that is expressive and unique.

The idents are based on four different scripts; Movie Title, Star, Director and Composer.
